Saturday night travelers will have to get off Pa. turnpike

(Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission)

A bridge that passes over the Pennsylvania Turnpike between the Breezewood and Bedford interchanges will be removed beginning late Saturday, requiring travelers to find a bypass around the approximately 20-mile stretch of the turnpike. The work is expected to finished in about 6 hours, allowing the turnpike to reopen about 5 a.m. Sunday.

Beginning at 11 p.m. on Saturday night, motorists approaching the Bedford and Breezewood interchanges will have to exit. The turnpike commission is advising motorists to use Route 30 to get around the work area.

The bridge being replaced carries Hazelette Street traffic over the turnpike in West Providence Township in Bedford County. In the hours leading up to the turnpike closing, some lanes will be closed to allow equipment to be set up.

The turnpike on Thursday said it's possible bad weather will postpone bridge removal.
