WVU’s power-hitting 2nd baseman Kyle Gray earns All-Big 12 honor

Kyle Gray’s 14 home runs rank third in the Big 12 and the West Virginia second baseman was selected to the all-conference team Tuesday.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia second baseman Kyle Gray ended the regular season among the conference leaders in homers, batting and slugging and earned a spot on the All-Big 12 team Tuesday.

On the eve of the conference tournament in Oklahoma City, he ranks third in the league home runs (14), second in slugging (.685) and third in batting (.364). A junior, Gray had a career-long 23-game hitting streak that stretched from April to mid-May.

The Mountaineers’ other postseason notables were second-team outfielder Darius Hill and all-freshman third baseman Tyler Doanes.

Seventh-seeded West Virginia (27-25) faces No. 2 seed Oklahoma State (29-22-1) on Wednesday in the first round of the Big 12 tournament.
