Men who cook
Faith In Action North Lakeland Inc. held its The Men That Cook event Sept. 23 at the Coleman Bush Building. More than 200 people got to taste the food cooked by local celebrity chefs David Baker, Rev. Marty Brown, Morris Chestang, Ben Johnson, Tyrone Johnson, Ayelle Mayer, Robert McAfee, Larry Mitchell, Richard Ramshard, Nathaniel “Pop” Robinson, Henry Rodmon Jr., Thaddeur Speed, Willie Stembridge and Shandale Terrell. The event raised funds to help the chronically ill, frail, elderly and homebound citizens who live in Polk County.
Celebrating 100 years
Brookdale Oakbridge resident Pearl Vence turned 100 on Oct. 4 in Lakeland. The community deemed the day "Pearl Day" to honor and celebrate Vence.
K9s For Cops
The Knights of Columbus Council 10169 of Lakeland attended the recent K9s for Cops Memorial Banquet at Lone Palm Golf and Country Club and donated $550 to the cause.
Option for Women fundraiser
Members of the Knights of Columbus St. Joseph's Catholic Church Council 2505, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Council 10,169 and St. John Neumann Catholic Church Council 13,907, all of Lakeland, participated in the annual Option for Women Pregnancy Help Clinic at First Presbyterian Church. Participants all made individual contributions to the cause.
Johns Hopkins All Children's
Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital, 3310 Lakeland Hills Blvd., Lakeland, celebrated 20 years of providing health care services to children in Polk County on Oct. 9.
Best Large Hospital Workplace
Lakeland Regional Health was named Best Hospital Workplace with 150-plus beds by the Florida Hospital Association at the FHA's annual meeting and awards presentation Oct. 4.

Happy birthday to Sara Long who turns 86 on Oct. 17, Jaren Gadd who turns 42 on Oct. 19, Nicole Creek who turns 38 on Oct. 20 and Laura Balser who turns 29 on Oct. 21.
