APPOINTMENTS

• Michelle Ingram was elected board chairman of the newly established University of North Carolina at Pembroke Board of Visitors. She is trial court coordinator with Brunswick County Superior Court. Jessica Locklear, a Maxton lawyer with Locklear and Clark Law Firm, was elected vice chairwoman and David Sumner, vice president of corporate services with Southeastern Health, was elected secretary. The board was tasked with advising the chancellor and serving as ambassadors for the university. It includes 23 members appointed by Chancellor Robin Gary Gummings, comprised of alumni and non-alumni members from across the region and the state. Other members are Tim Brooks, of HealthKeeperz in Lumberton; Luanne Caudell, retired educator in St. Pauls; Dr. Cheryl Davis, of Scotland Health Care Systems; Rob Davis, an Elizabethtown lawyer; Howie DeVane, of DeVane Realty and Auction in Garner; Terry Garner, a retired lawyer in Laurinburg; Thomas Jones II, a Whiteville business owner; Tracy Lee, of the N.C. Department of Public Safety in Charlotte; Jarrod Lowery, of the N.C. Department of Insurance in Prospect; Chris Maples, of Rockingham and who works for U.S. Rep. Richard Hudson; Leon Martin, retired banker in Tar Heel; Clayton Maynor, a Pfizer executive in Zebulon; Carla Hobbs Morgan, a Raleigh finance director; Judge Lou Olivera, of Fayetteville; Belinda Oxendine Patrick, a retired biotech executive in Clemmons; Mark Petersen, an administrator with Robeson Pediatrics in Lumberton; Judge Michael Stone, of Raeford; Ron Sutton, a Pembroke lawyer; Dr. Daniel Walters, a Lumberton dentist; and Stacy Williamson, owner of Coastal Southeastern United Care Company in Ocean Isle.

David L. Baggett, campus physician assistant and leader of the Methodist University Health Clinic, has been appointed president of the Fayetteville Rotary Club. He’s been a member of Rotary for 35 years.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Alex T. Keith, of Tom J. Keith & Associates Inc., has been certified by the N.C. Appraisal Board as a state-certified general real estate appraiser. He is the vice chairman of the Fayetteville Zoning Commission.

Matthew K. Adams, of Tom J. Keith & Associates Inc., has been certified by the N.C. Appraisal Board as a state-certified general real estate appraiser.

Brent Lewis, director of Cultural Programs and Safe Zone at Fayetteville State University, has been selected as the recipient of the 2017-18 John L. Sanders Student Advocate Award. The award, presented by the University of North Carolina Association of Student Governments, is given to a public figure who advocates for the best interests of North Carolina’s students and thereby contributes to the quality of their lives.

Kimberly Hardy, Fayetteville State University assistant professor at the School of Social Work, was recently named president of the Society for Spirituality & Social Work. The society has not been active for the past several years so Hardy is leading a planning team to relaunch the organization in 2019. Hardy also serves on the board of directors for the North American Association of Christians in Social Work where she is chairwoman of the board’s Diversity Committee.

The Little Gym of Fayetteville received The Little Gym’s President’s Circle Award at the company’s 2018 Reunion conference. This distinction recognizes top performing gyms that excel in three key areas: delivering a positive experience for children and their families, attracting new customers and retaining existing customers by creating a loyal customer base.

IN BUSINESS

EbenConcepts, headquartered in Fayetteville, has been joined by Peake Insurance Agency of Greeneville, Tennessee. Peake is a multiline agency focusing on serving the individual and commercial insurance needs of its clients in northeastern Tennessee. EbenConcepts, formed in 2002, has worked exclusively on health and other benefits related needs for individuals and employers and now has more than 50 offices in 11 states.

ODDS & ENDS

• The Community Assistance Corporation, South River Electric Membership Corporation’s nonprofit foundation, awarded $40,436 in Operation Round Up grants to benefit community, public service agencies and schools. Stedman Volunteer Fire Department received funding of $5,361. Grants of $5,000 each went to Eastover Volunteer Fire Department, Dunn Emergency Services Inc. and Bethany Rural Fire Department. Vann Crossroads Fire Department received a grant for $3,614. Educational institutions can apply for up to $10,000 in grant funding. Institutions receiving funding are Hobbton Middle, $10,000; Cape Fear High, $3,322; and Hargrove Elementary, $3,139.

Lumbee River Electric Membership Corporation and the Lumbee Warriors Association have established a scholarship at UNC Pembroke for children and grandchildren of veterans. Representatives with the two organizations presented a check for $30,000 to the university during a ceremony on campus.
