Jaws Of Life Used In Dramatic Garden Grove Four Car Crash

A trash bin delivery truck and 3 other cars collided late Tuesday, injuring at least two people in the four-car smash-up, police said.

GARDEN GROVE, CA — Firefighters worked to extract the injured from a collision involving four vehicles, Garden Grove Fire Department Captain Thanh Nguyen said.

A car and a truck delivering trash bins collided head-on Tuesday in Garden Grove, injuring two people, one of whom was trapped in the wreckage. A total of four vehicles were involved in the 9:30 a.m. crash, that took place near Garden Grove Boulevard and Village Center Drive, according to Nguyen.

One trapped patient, who had been in the car that collided with the truck, was extricated with the hydraulic "jaws of life" tool, and taken to the hospital in critical condition, Nguyen said.

The truck driver suffered moderate injuries and was also taken to a hospital, Nguyen said.

Westminster police were investigating the crash. The Orange County Fire Authority assisted in the rescue response.
