Emmys 2014: Josh Charles on ‘Good Wife’ victories, and Drama Series snub

The latest -The Emmys sometimes can be an interesting beast, and this year was no exception at all. Basically you had a miniseries in “True Detective” get a Drama Series nod because of it being submitted there, and then a show in “Downton Abbey” get nominated for its worst season to date.

Then, you have some pretty shocking snubs. While “The Walking Dead” and “Masters of Sex” were more darkhorses than anything else, everyone expected “The Good Wife” to get a nod. Instead, its honors went more to Julianna Margulies, Josh Charles, Dylan Baker, and Christine Baranski in the acting fields.

Charles did an interview with Entertainment Weekly today to discuss his honor as a supporting actor, but he also reacted to the show not getting the love that he feels it deserved:

“I was bummed, obviously. I was hoping and expected that we would, just because we had such a strong season. But you just never know how these things are gonna play out. There always seems to be things that people get right, and then there’s other things people scratch their heads at. I feel like everybody’s been on different sides of it at different times. I’m biased, but I thought the show should be nominated for anything that it was up for. So I was bummed that the show wasn’t, and also the writing. But I was very happy for my fellow performers, Julianna [Margulies], and Christine [Baranski], and Dylan Baker, who was nominated for an episode that I directed him in, so that felt particularly special. I’m really happy for Mark Saks, our tireless casting director who does such a great job. He gets nominated quite a bit, but I really would like to see him win one of these. He just does heroic work putting all these wonderful actors in the show.”

We second what Charles says about Mark Saks. This show bar-none has the best casting in network television, and this man should be winning this at least every other year.

“The Good Wife” can at least still celebrate all of its other love throughout the years; ultimately, we have a feeling that it’s going to be just fine.
