Warning: Spoilers for The Big Bang Theory season 11 lie ahead. Don't get Bazinga'd!

Good news, Big Bang Theory fans! Not only are Sheldon and Amy finally engaged, but Professor Proton is also set to return for the sitcom's latest season.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bob Newhart will be reprising his role as Arthur Jeffries (better known as Professor Proton) and his ghostly bedside manner.

Newhart originally appeared in season six, much to Sheldon and Leonard's delight, popping up intermittently before his character's death in season seven. Sob.

Although we're not totally convinced a man of science like Sheldon would believe in apparitions from beyond the grave, Professor Proton will be returning in his Obi Wan garb soon.

And considering Sheldon's going to have to draw up one hell of a relationship agreement for Amy, we're not surprised that the Prof will back to offer Sheldon his sage counsel.

Big Bang fans were left thrilled when Shamy's proposal cliffhanger was finally resolved in the premiere's opening scenes earlier this week.

And not only did Sheldon manage to secure Amy's father's all-important permission, Stephen Hawking gave him the go ahead, too.

The Big Bang Theory continues next Monday night (October 1) at 8pm on CBS in the US. In the UK, season 11 will be airing soon on E4.
