A judge set bail at $250,000 bond Thursday for the man accused of leading state police on a high-speed chase and pinning a trooper against his car during the pursuit.
Police say troopers tried to stop Peash Rahman, of Queens, Wednesday at around 1:40 p.m. for driving with a revoked registration on the Southern State Parkway.  However instead of stopping, investigators say he hit the gas and led troopers on a chase.
"They began a pursuit eastbound on the Southern State Parkway,” said New York State Police Lt. Daniel Smith. “They exited the parkway, only to get back on the parkway heading westbound, exited onto Wantagh Avenue and turned onto this local cul-de-sac."
The chase led both Rahman and troopers to Michele Lane, a dead-end street in Wantagh.  At this point troopers to blocked him in, sandwiching Rahmen’s vehicle between the two cars.  Stunned residents looked on in disbelief.
“The police cars closed him in and he was going crazy in the car,” said Wantagh resident Emily Nicolich. “He kept going back and forth trying to hit both police cars, backing into the cars just trying to get out of here."
Investigators say Rahman drove at one of the troopers as he tried to get out of his car, pinning him against the vehicle. Both troopers were eventually able to make the arrest.  They are expected to be fine following the incident.
Rahman, 24, faces charges including assault on a police officer, reckless endangerment and criminal possession of marijuana. Prosecutors said more than 6 pounds of marijuana and $300,000 were found in his car.
The judge set the cash bail at $125,000. She said Rahman showed a reckless disregard for others. The judge also ordered Rahman to surrender his passport after being told by prosecutors that the suspect attends school in Dubai and may be a flight risk.
