Whenever you enter a Regal Entertainment Group (RGC) establishment, the staff will inspect your bags before admitting you into the theater.

The company recently added this new rule to the admittance procedures page on its website:

Security issues have become a daily part of our lives in America. Regal Entertainment Group wants our customers and staff to feel comfortable and safe when visiting or working in our theatres. To ensure the safety of our guests and employees, backpacks and bags of any kind are subject to inspection prior to admission. We acknowledge that this procedure can cause some inconvenience and that it is not without flaws, but hope these are minor in comparison to increased safety.

There have been three mass shootings in movie theaters since 2012, one of which occurred last month at a screening of Amy Schumer’s Trainwreck just days after James Holmes, the Aurora movie theater gunman, was found guilty.

No theaters had responded to this appalling trend until now.
