Wendy’s manager arrested for shooting at a teenager in parking lot

A manager at Wendy’s located north of Philadelphia was arrested for shooting a gun at a teenager last week, according to ABC6.

The report noted that Cheltenham Township Police arrested 29-year-old Rico Drayton of Philadelphia. Police told ABC6 they believe Drayton “shot at a teenager in the parking lot while customers were inside eating.”

The incident happened around 6 p.m. Friday at the Wendy’s on West Cheltenham Avenue.

Surveillance video obtained by police showed that inside the fast-food restaurant a fight broke out in the kitchen, the report noted.

Lt. Andy Snyder told ABC6: “They were slipping and sliding all over the place.”

Officers said the fight then ensued in the parking lot. Teenagers were reportedly “running away from Wendy’s” when Drayton – who not only managed the store but was also involved in the fight – “fired his handgun at the group, striking one of the teens in the shoulder," according to the report.

The teen suffered from a graze wound and was treated at a hospital for it.

Officers were able to “recover the firearm” and discovered it had “malfunctioned.” It was only able to “fire one shot,” Snyder said in the ABC6 interview.

"Otherwise, things could have been much worse,” Snyder said.

Police discovered that Drayton was a convicted felon, which means he legally cannot be in possession of a firearm in Pennsylvania. Drayton had been on parole in connection with another crime, police said.

ABC6′s report explained that Drayton fired a teenage employee, who then came back to Wendy’s the “next day with his friends to fight.” After the shot was fired, Drayton threw the gun “in the bushes next to the Wendy’s where police later retrieved it inside a backpack," according to police.

All the teens involved in the fight haven’t been identified yet.
