Radio station WZZO seeking musical groups for Allentown Fair Backyard Bands competition

Lehigh Valley radio station WZZO-FM 95.1 has announced that its Backyard Bands contest – its longtime competition to find and award a top regional band, will be back Allentown Fair.

The finals, with five bands competing, will be 8 p.m. Aug. 31 on the fair’s Farmerama Theater stage. The competition will be aired on RCN cable TV.

The Backyard Bands competition is a 28-year tradition at the fair with music industry judges hearing the groups compete for more than $6,500 in prizes.

Watching the competition is free, with fair admission.

Bands must attach an MP3 file of one original song to a message to DJ Jain at the Backyard Bands Facebook page here: www.facebook.com/backyardbands

The entry must include the Mp3 and title, band name, and two contact phone numbers. Incomplete entries will not be eligible.

Songs must be clean. A panel of WZZO judges will choose the five finalists. All decisions of WZZO, its judges and sponsors are final.

Past winners are ineligible, but previous finalists are allowed to enter.

Your band must be able to play at the fair competition Aug. 31.

At the competition, bands will be judged on songwriting, musicianship, stage presence and overall performance.
