Is Texas still an option for 4-star CB Marcus Banks after his decommitment from LSU?

As you may know by now, four-star Spring Dekaney cornerback Marcus Banks announced his decommitment from the LSU Tigers Tuesday evening. Banks made a commitment to the Tigers in early June after he took his official visit just days before.

Could the Texas Longhorns be in the running for Banks now that he’s once again on the open market?

The Texas coaching staff was one of the first programs to recognize the talent of Banks, becoming the third school to put an offer on the table for the standout in June of 2017. That recruiting effort ultimately landed the Longhorns in his final five in April before Banks elected to take his talents to LSU.

That interest still remains. As of right now, Banks is still considering the Longhorns after reopening his recruiting process, he told Burnt Orange Nation. He still remains in contact with Texas, and speaks consistently with defensive backs coach Jason Washington.

Despite signing three All-American cornerbacks last cycle, the Longhorns have remained active recruiting the position this cycle in offering 15 cornerback prospects. Thus far, those efforts have netted two commitments from four-star Loganville (Ga.) Grayson cornerback Kenyatta Watson II and three-star Alvin cornerback Marques Caldwell.

Adding another cornerback or two to the current Texas recruiting class would provide even more depth to an already stout secondary on campus.

Banks has visited the Forty Acres multiple times within the last year and still thinking about making Texas one of his last official visits. However, Alabama and Texas A&M seem to have the inside track with Banks at the moment.

At 6’0, 170 pounds, Banks is ranked as the nation’s No. 266 prospect and the No. 33 player in the state, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.
