OROVILLE — Oversized dragons, sword fights and handmade wares will abound when the Feather Falls Renaissance Faire returns May 25 to Oroville.
The event is sponsored by Feather Falls Casino and offers a wide variety of entertainment. According to organizer Allison Baldwin, there have been three annual renaissance fairs previously organized in Redding which led to the organization of this event in Oroville last year.
The 2018 fair had over 10,000 in attendance. Baldwin says she hopes to see at least as many at the fair this year. The event was moved to Memorial Day Weekend after being previously held in April to avoid the chance of rain.
This year, the fair is free and open to the public with no separate fees for any entertainment or events.
OROVILLE — One exciting offerings will be the 7,000-pound dragon sculpture, which is rigged to “breathe” fire. It is used in an afternoon show with a Viking attack on the dragon. There are also two giant rocking unicorns and two full-size ships, a Viking ship and a pirate ship. The pirate ship is used in a “Buccaneer Bootcamp” show.
Scheduled in-costume fights are some of the most popular events at the fair, with fighters set to fight with authentic recreated weapons and armor on both days at set times.
Other costumed volunteers, exotic animals and “mermaid” characters will be at the festival for families to meet and take photos with.
Over 50 artisan vendors and guilds will also be at the event, with clothing, jewelry, weapons such as swords and knives and many other items from local crafters and artists for sale. Food vendors will also be onsite with offerings like beers and meats.
Baldwin said the faire is proud to host 99% artisan vendors to offer authentic handmade crafts, jewelry and artwork, while creating the feeling of a renaissance village.
