Martyr cremated with state honours
Health minister Anil Vij pays tributes to Havildar Vikram Jit Singh
CHANDIGARH: Havildar Vikram Jit Singh, who attained martyrdom while fighting terrorists in Gurez sector of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, was cremated with full state honours at his native village Tepla in Ambala district on Thursday.
The Army and police contingents presented the guard of honour to the martyr while hundreds of villagers gave a tearful farewell to the son of the soil.
Mortal remains of Lance Naik Vikram Jit (26) were airlifted to the Air Force Station, Ambala Cantonment at 6 pm on Wednesday, from where it was brought to his native village Tepla on Thursday in a fully decorated Army vehicle.
Haryana health minister Anil Vij paid rich tributes to the martyr by laying a wreath on his mortal remains. A state government official said a financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh had been transferred to the bank accounts of martyr’s wife Harjit Kaur, father Baljinder Singh and mother Kamlesh Kaur. While Rs 23.34 lakh had been transferred in his wife’s account, Rs 13.33 lakh each had been transferred in the bank accounts of his mother and father.
As per the decision of the state government, wife of martyr Vikram Jit would be provided a government job.
