Police: Burlington woman asleep at the wheel

Police say a Burlington woman who was asleep at the wheel caused a serious crash that sent her passenger to the hospital.

It happened around 6:45 Monday morning on Route 22A in Shoreham. Authorities say 26-year-old Deandre Gay was headed north when she likely nodded off, crossed the center line, and crashed into a tree near Lapham Bay Road. She received only minor injuries, but her passenger,

22-year-old Natalie Carr, suffered multiple serious injuries. She was transported to the UVM Medical Center where she remains in stable condition. The crash remains under investigation.
