A New Stuyahok man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a disabled village elder and then attempting to steal the victim’s personal property, Alaska State Troopers say.

The assaulted was reported to troopers at around 1:15 p.m. Thursday. The suspect, identified as 48-year-old Tommy Gumlickpuk, entered the elder’s home in New Stuyahok and barricaded the front door from the inside before sexually assaulting the victim, troopers say.

When Gumlickpuk heard the victim’s family members banging on the front door, he fled out a back window, taking with him some of the victim’s personal property, troopers said.

Gumlickpuk was later arrested and charged with two counts of first degree sexual assault as well as multiple counts of robbery, assault and theft, troopers say. He is being housed at the Dillingham Jail.

The elderly victim was taken to Dillingham for medical treatment.

New Stuyahok is a village in Western Alaska with a population of about 500 people according to 2015 state estimates.
