This Friday, June 21, Willie Nelson will release his new studio album, Ride Me Back Home, and the legendary singer-songwriter stopped by The Tonight Show yesterday in support of the effort to perform one of the record’s tracks and talk with host Jimmy Fallon.

Nelson chose Guy Clark’s “My Favorite Picture of You” for the performance, making the ballad feel intimate even on the late-night television stage. During his conversation with Fallon, Nelson spoke about his Rolling Stone “Weed Issue” cover and his quote, “Marijuana saved my life,” noting that he used to smoke cigarettes and drink heavily, causing bouts of pneumonia, a collapsed lung and more, until switching to cannabis.

The interview then moved on to Nelson’s cannabis company, Willie’s Reserve, and his position at the organization of “CTO,” or “Chief Testing Officer” (“I haven’t run across any that I didn’t like,” the songwriter joked), as well as his efforts to house horses on his property in Texas and save dozens of animals that were scheduled to be killed.

In other Nelson news, the singer is in the midst of his 2019 Outlaw Music Festival tour, and at a stop in Hartford, CT, this past weekend, Nelson welcomed several of his tour mates on stage at the end of his set for his traditional closer, “Will the Circle Be Unbroken?,” including Phil Lesh and members of The Terrapin Family Band and The Revivalists.
