Injured horse euthanized after crash involving buggy

An injured horse was euthanized Sunday following a crash involving the buggy it was pulling, Ephrata police said.

They said the accident occurred just after 3:30 p.m. when the horse was panicked by a passing tractor-trailer at Hahnstown Road and Route 322. The buggy driver, Marlin Martin, 33, of Terre Hill, couldn’t control the animal, which struck another vehicle.

The horse suffered a broken leg, police said. “Due to the significant injury to the horse, the inability to control it and ensure the safety the citizens on scene and the motoring public the horse was euthanized,” they said.

There weren’t any other injuries.
