Fast start not enough for Lafayette Aviators

Staff reports

Seeking to build a winning streak, the Lafayette Aviators looked strong for four innings Friday night against the Quincy Gems in Loeb Stadium.

But the fifth inning would prove to be the Aviators' undoing in a 9-8 Prospect League baseball loss.

Lafayette starter Jacob Gilmore held Quincy to one hit through four innings and held a 3-0 lead thanks to sacrifice flies by Jason Cryar and Jordan Libman, plus wild pitch. However, Quincy struck for four runs in the fifth and forced Gilmore from the game.

The Gems added a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh to take command.

Kevin Raisbeck and Libman each had two hits, with Libman driving in three runs for Lafayette.
