Pelosi: ‘I pray for the president of the United States,’ Trump responds

.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said she prays for President Trump after slamming him over infrastructure.

“I pray for the president of the United States,” the California Democrat said. “And I pray for the United States of America.”

Pelosi’s comments follow Trump cutting short a meeting over infrastructure with the speaker and Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

Trump responded to Pelosi’s prayer remarks on Twitter, saying he was thankful.

“Democrat leadership is tearing the United States apart, but I will continue to set records for the American People – and Nancy, thank you so much for your prayers, I know you truly mean it!” Trump said.

Pelosi has mentioned her continuing prayer for the president on multiple occasions.

In June 2017, after a gunman shot at Republican congressmen, Pelosi said that she prays for the president’s success.

“I pray for Donald Trump that his presidency will be successful and that his family will be safe,” Pelosi said on the House floor.

In 2018, at a weekly press conference, Pelosi said she prayed Trump would “resist” a government shutdown.

“I did tell the president that I prayed for him,” Pelosi said. She added the president had told her to: “Go tell the press.”

Pelosi said Wednesday morning that Trump was “engaged in a cover-up.

Trump then called an infrastructure meeting where he promptly demanded the speaker end House investigations involving him before an infrastructure deal could be struck.
