Patriots sign Super Bowl MVP Julian Edelman to two-year extension through 2021, per reports

The New England Patriots have extended one of their key offensive players, Super Bowl LIII MVP Julian Edelman.

The veteran receiver has signed a two-year extension that will keep him under contract through 2021, according to ESPN and NFL Network, and it's worth $18 million ($12 million of it guaranteed).

Edelman, one of Tom Brady’s most trusted targets and one of the top slot receivers in the NFL, will turn 33 on Wednesday. He has played all 10 of his seasons in New England after the team selected him in the seventh round, with pick No. 232 overall, of the 2009 draft. Aside from missing 2017 with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, Edelman has been one of the more consistent and productive mainstays in New England’s offense.

Patriots WR Julian Edelman earned Super Bowl LIII MVP honors.

In his five active regular seasons since 2013, he has caught 430 passes for 4,676 yards and 26 touchdowns. He has also been an essential postseason contributor. In New England’s 13-3 victory in February against the Los Angeles Rams, Edelman hauled in 10 catches for 141 yards, both of which were game highs.

He also made an improbable reception late in Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons that helped complete the Patriots’ historic, 25-point comeback.

Edelman's 115 career receptions for 1,412 receiving yards in postseason both rank second only to Hall of Famer Jerry Rice.
