The star of “Star Trek: Next Generation” Brent Spiner along with “Star Trek: Voyager” alum Jeri Ryan are reprising their original series roles alongside Patrick Stewart in the new series “Star Trek: Picard.”
The cast for the series was unveiled along with a trailer at Comic-Con on Saturday, which you can watch above. They’ll be joined by “Next Generation” actor Jonathan Del Arco, as well as Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis reprising their original roles
Spiner played the android Data in “Next Generation,” Frakes starred as Cmdr. William Ryker, Sirtis played Counselor Deanna Troi and Del Arco played Hugh the Borg, one of the villains in a pair of episodes on the late ’80s and early ’90s series. Jeri Ryan played the former Borg warrior Seven of Nine on “Star Trek: Voyager.” And all of the cast members will feature prominently on the new CBS All Access series.
The series also stars Alison Pill, Harry Treadaway, Isa Briones, Santiago Cabrera and Michelle Hurd. “Star Trek: Discovery” alum Hanelle Culpepper will direct the first two episodes.
“Picard represents the ideal captain not just as a philosopher but as a human being,” co-showrunner Alex Kurtzman said of his view of the character at Comic-Con on Saturday.
During the Television Critics Association Press Tour earlier this year, co-showrunner Kurtzman teased a Picard who may look quite different for fans of the series. “It’s been 20-plus years, so he couldn’t possibly be that same person anymore,” Kurtzman said. “Next Generation” ended in 1994 and Stewart’s Picard was last seen in the 2002 film, “Star Trek: Nemesis.”
The new series will be produced by CBS Television Studios in association with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. Kurtzman, Michael Chabon, Akiva Goldsman, James Duff, Patrick Stewart, Heather Kadin, Rod Roddenberry and Trevor Roth will serve as executive producers. Aaron Baiers (Secret Hideout) will serve as co-executive producer, and Kirsten Beyer will serve as supervising producer. Michael Chabon has been named showrunner.
No premiere date has been announced, but the show is slated to debut in early 2020.
