How to Rock the Slacker Suit Outside of the Office

Call it the year that bad suiting never looked so good. On the runway for Fall 2017 (Men’s included), following a redefined “business casual” look, cubicle-ready slacks and jackets came ill-fitting, slouchy, and oversize. At Martine Rose, models swam in sweetly colored baggy trousers and fat windbreakers. At Vetements, a pair of pin-striped trousers were far too high and a belt was far too long. In Look #25 at Raf Simons, the mocha suit jacket hit the upper thigh and the hem of the pants almost went past the heel. (And the look that was topped off with that greenish yellow blazer and choker necklace? The model appeared to have leisurely strolled out of bed to his desk job after a hard night out.)

Call it the antithesis of boardroom polish. But the breathable style is refreshing; not too manicured like the meticulously sewn bespoke suits that a banker boy or a high-flying businessman wears. On the street, Leelee Sobieski made the case for the look, stepping out in a relaxed but elegant navy blue suit. Sure, maybe the slacker suit isn’t, well, suited for the workplace. But it sure looks good after hours—or maybe on a casual Friday. Anyways, button up.
