Michigan high school boys state cross country meet: Results, roundup

Paced by a second-place finish from Carter Solomon, the Plymouth boys cross country team won its first title in the sport on Saturday. 

Last year, Plymouth finished second to Ann Arbor Pioneer. 

Plymouth edged Walled Lake Central, 122-127. Dexter finished third (154), Clarkston was fourth (164) and Ann Arbor Skyline was fifth (197). 

Ann Arbor Pioneer's Nick Foster held off Plymouth's Carter Solomon to win his second consecutive MHSAA Division 1 individual cross-country championship Saturday at Michigan International Speedway.

Ann Arbor Pioneer's Nick Foster repeated as the individual champion, running his race in 15:13.0 — the best time of the day in any division. This bested his time from 2017 by 3 seconds.

Division 2

With 121 points, Chelsea won its second straight boys state cross country meet. 

Chelsea edged Fremont, which scored 134 points. Rounding out the top five were Spring Lake (199), Zeeland West (201) and Otsego (202). 

Otsego's Alex Comerford won the individual meet with a time of 15:23.6.

It's a three-peat for Yami Albrecht. 

The Caro runner won his third straight state cross county meet, leading his Caro team to a state championship. 

Last year, the team finished as runners-up to Hanover-Horton, which finished fourth. 

Caro had 61 points, Pewamo-Westphalia finished second with 100 points, followed by Shepherd (195). After Hanover-Horton (206) was Grandville Calvin Christian (215). 

Albrecht ran a 15:40, which is his best time in his three-year run. He ran a 15:44.7 in 2017 and a 15:47.4 in 2016.

Saugatuck won its third Division 4 title in six years, led by a first- and -third place finish in the race. 

Paced by Corey Gorgas (15:33.8) and Nik Pettinga (16:18.0), Saugatuck ran away with the title, scoring 62 points. The next closest team was Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart, which scored 102. 

Rounding out the top five were East Jordan (153), Breckenridge (157) and Unionville-Sebewaing (227).
