14 DAY TRIAL // TAG Heuer is one of the most exquisite smartwatch manufacturers, and every year the company launches a new model that costs more than the typical Apple Watch buyer can ever imagine spending for such a device.
After last year’s Connected Modular 45 watch which was available for $1,600, TAG Heuer returns with an improved model (in terms of appearance) that features no less than 589 23.35-carat diamonds. Plus, it boasts a diamond set polished white gold folding claps and safety push buttons.
This makes it the most expensive smartwatch ever launched, and it can be yours soon for only $180,000. Obviously, it’s not sold online, but you should be able to order it from a TAG Heuer retail store.
Hardware specifications
In terms of hardware specifications, there’s a good chance your Apple Watch Series 3 is a lot more capable smartwatch than the new super-expensive TAG Heuer model.
The Connected Modular 45 diamond edition runs on Android Wear 2.0 and features a 1.39-inch AMOLED screen covered by sapphire glass of 2.5mm thickness and with a 400x400px screen resolution, 24-bit and 297ppi. Power comes from an Intel Atom Processor Z34xx paired with 512MB RAM and 4GB storage.
Sensors include an accelerometer, gyroscope, microphone, haptics engine, ambient light sensor, GPS, and NFC, and the watch supports both Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi. The battery is a 410 mAh unit which TAG Heuer says should last for up to 25 hours on normal usage, which means less than a day in real life.
The device works with both iOS and Android and it lacks more advanced features like water-resistance because seriously now, who wants to swim with a nearly $200,000 smartwatch covered in diamonds?
It remains to be seen how many people will actually buy this smartwatch, but given its price, you’ll probably be able to count them on the fingers of one hand.
