Officials Say Lake Wales Brush Fire Nearly 50 Percent Contained

The Florida Forest Service says the brush fire that's burned through 350 acres near Lake Wales is now about 50 percent contained.

LAKE WALES, FL-- The Florida Forest Service says the brush fire that’s burned through 350 acres near Nalcrest east of Lake Wales is now about 50 percent contained.

Crews began battling the fire Sunday, March 25, at around 10 p.m. and worked through the night.

The forest service believes a lightning strike last week is responsible for the fire. Polk County Fire Rescue evacuated residents in eight homes off Leisure Lane East but those residents have been allowed to return to their homes.
