Men’s tennis:

The William and Mary doubles team of junior Brenden Volk and freshman Oren Vasser pulled off the biggest upset for a Tribe pair since 2011 on the way to the quarterfinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s Atlantic Regional in Blacksburg.

The Tribe also advanced five players in the second round in the singles draw, with Volk, Vasser, sophomores Finbar Talcott and Sebastian Quiros and freshman Daniel Pellerito picking up wins.

After wins in the opening two rounds Friday, Vasser and Volk upended No. 2 seeds Carlo Donato and Mitch Harper of Virginia Tech, who are ranked 16th nationally, 8-7 (7-3). It marked the highest-ranked doubles win for a W&M duo since 2011 when Jamie Whiteford and Sebastien Vidal knocked off the No. 6 team, which was representing Ohio State.

Women’s lacrosse:

Old Dominion is set to host the German national team in a scrimmage at 1 p.m. Sunday at the L.R. Hill Sports Complex.

“We are excited to welcome back Shelby Davis and Denise Roessler, two ODU lacrosse alumni, who coach the German national team,” Monarchs coach Heather Holt said.

The teams will join Saturday for a dinner and Sunday for a tailgate after the scrimmage. The German team also is playing Drexel, George Mason and Villanova on the trip.

Matt McMorrow’s first pro goal midway in the first period held up. The teams will play a rematch at 7 p.m. Saturday.

On the goal, Taylor Cammarata delivered a pass from the corner, and McMorrow knocked the puck over the shoulder of goalie Jeremy Helvig.

The Everblades gained an opportunity to even the score when they received a 4-on-3 power play for 87 seconds in the third period, but Madsen and the Admirals’ penalty killers suppressed the attack.
