The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has suspended its ‘Sangh Shiksha Varg’ (summer training programme) for the first time since 1929 to provide more strength to India’s fight against Covid-19. It has been only three times in the post-Independent India that the Sangh could not hold the important event, which is part of its annual calendar.
Lauding the response of the Narendra Modi government to the Covid crisis, the ruling BJP’s ideological fountainhead also called the steps taken by country’s leadership an example for “so-called developed” nations.
Addressing the media via videoconferencing, Sangh leader Manmohan Vaidya launched an attack on the Tablighi Jamaat, saying the Nizamuddin congregation was responsible for close to 30 per cent of the active Covid cases in the country. He said Tablighi leaders did not show a responsible behaviour and the “way some of them later behaved with people was a show of ‘vikruti’ (abnormality) of minds”.
