Of all the travesties that have occurred in 2017, none have been so unanimously and instantly decried as the anointing of Blake Shelton as People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive." But, thankfully, the Internet has already named a worthy replacement: Idris Elba.

Never mind that the title of "Sexiest Man Alive" in and of itself seems a bit outdated and, at the very least, extremely subjective, but Shelton seems like a wildcard pick that begs the question: Who asked for this? Best known for serving as a coach on NBC's The Voice, dating Gwen Stefani, and being nominated for eight Grammy awards, Shelton has accomplished some impressive feats, though his personal life leaves a bit to be desired. After taking the 2017 sexy crown, Twitter users began pulling up tweets allegedly posted by Shelton between 2009 through 2011, that showcased cringe-worthy jokes at the expense of the LGBTQ community. Instead of accepting the plain piece of white toast handed to us, the Internet has rejected Shelton and instead named Elba, suave British actor, the true sexy king.

Elba, 44, is best known for his work in The Wire, Thor, and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and has long been on everyone's hot list, just waiting for his overdue time in the spotlight. In August, Matthew McConaughey, who won the "Sexiest Man" award in 2005, even suggested that his The Dark Tower co-star should take the throne. "This is the perfect answer for the next Sexiest Man Alive," McConaughey, 47, told People. Additionally, the Internet has also been campaigning for Elba to play James Bond for quite some time now. Model Ashley Graham even said she would play a Bond Girl for free if he was her 007, and, honestly, same.

Reactions on Twitter to Elba's snub were a mix of outrage and full-on denial. Many compared the loss to the 2016 election, with Shelton playing the role of Donald Trump, whom the singer supported. "I can't believe Russia thought Blake Shelton was the Sexiest Man Alive of 2017. Also, maybe Idris Elba should've campaigned more in Michigan and Ohio," one Twitter user penned. Another wrote, "Can't believe Blake Shelton is People's Sexiest Man Alive when Idris Elba got 3 million more votes." In an alternate universe, Hillary Clinton is president and Idris Elba is the sexiest James Bond alive. We're going to need to figure out time travel immediately.
