A big road construction project in Ocean County will force some commuters to find alternate routes.

A resurfacing project is starting this week along Route 37. Crews were out Monday preparing for it.

The first phase of the project, developed by the New Jersey Department of Transportation, will be replacing some of the curbing for about a 4-mile stretch.

Drivers can expect shoulder closures from Fischer Boulevard to the west of the Garden State Parkway in Toms River.

Construction begins at 7 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday for the next few weeks.

Construction for this project should be finished by the fall.

The second phase of the project will be a series of overnight projects starting on Aug. 13. This projects will run from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. and will include a repaving of the road.

People told News 12 they were happy about that because the road is a rough ride.

Route 37 is one of the most traveled highways in all of Ocean County. It is the main passageway for commuters getting to and from Seaside to the Garden State Parkway.
