To Be Honored With the Prestigious Namaste Award this Sunday

On Sunday, September 25, Yoga Gives Back (YGB) will be presenting David Lynch – three-time Oscar-nominated film director – the 2016 Namaste Award at the Thank You Mother India Fundraiser in Malibu.

Every year, the Southern California community gathers to thank Mother India for yoga and celebrate how this practice has transformed lives around the world. The Namaste Award is presented to those who go beyond teaching yoga, but also give back through humanitarian efforts. David Lynch has greatly improved the lives of many through his teachings and passion to help others.

Founder of YGB Kayoko Mitsumatsu says, “I am thrilled to present the 2016 Namaste Award to David Lynch whose passion for Transcendental Meditation led to creating the David Lynch Foundation for Consciousness-Based Education and World Peace.” Mitsumatsu explains, “The Foundation teaches Transcendental Meditation in many countries and, through its practice, helps young children in inner-city schools, veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder, the homeless, and women and girls who are victims of violence.”

Mitsumatsu adds, “While it’s common for many to perceive yoga as a physical exercise, the ultimate goal of the practice of yoga is to unite with the Divine Self – and meditation plays an important role in achieving this. ‘Namaste,’ which means ‘the divinity in me salutes divinity in you’ in Sanskrit, symbolizes Yoga Gives Back’s mission, which is to help others, and is the inspiration for the Namaste Award.”

YGB’s 2015-2016 global campaign raised over $75,000.00 (USD), and Mitsumatsu says the 2016-2017 goal is to raise over $100,000.00. For five months – September 2016 through January 2017 – over 150 YGB events will take place in more than 15 countries to raise awareness of the hardships endured by the poor, especially India’s women and children.

In the spirit of giving back, I am setting up a discretionary donation fund. Abundance and gratitude comes in many ways, and this year I want to make it my mission to give back, and motivate as many people as possible to give back to the community. With your generous donations, I will support The New York Center for Living, a private, non-profit, outpatient treatment center committed to serving adolescents, young adults and families challenged by substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.
