Boonsboro boys win Thomas Stone tournament

WALDORF, Md. — In winning the Thomas Stone Spring Tournament, Boonsboro improved to 4-4.

In the first game against the host team, sophomore Pierce Bajuscak led the way with six goals, while attackmen Ryn Best and Blake Morrow each scored two goals. Ethan Holobinko, Drew Selby and Ryan Jordan each had a goal. Alexander Springs won eight faceoffs and goalie Riley Simmons had four saves.

In the second game, Morrow led the Warriors with four goals and Joey Schnur tallied two goals and two assists. Bajuscak scored one goal. Springs won seven faceoffs and goalie Riley Simmons had three saves.

Beaver seniors win

Beaver Creek Country Club had a perfect day in the second round of the Washington Metro Golf Association Senior A-Team championship with a 12-0 victory over Norbeck Golf Club.

At Beaver Creek, sweeping three points each were the pairs of Greg Henry/Denny Stoner and Randy Cree/Pat Steiner. At Norbeck, winners were Jim Kyttle/Ken Winfield and Tracy Piper/Jim Young.

Beaver Creek will meet Loudoun Country Club on Saturday.

Beaver ‘A’ team advances

Without playing an official shot, the Beaver Creek ‘A’ team had its match conceded by TPC Potomac, who had beaten Norbeck in a playoff to reach Sunday’s match.

On Saturday, Beaver Creek will meet Congressional Country Club, which defeated Woodmont Country Club.

Also, Musket Ridge lost a close match to Hobbit’s Glen, 9 ½ to 8 ½.

Brooke’s House benefit Thursday at Grace

On Thursday afternoon, when Grace Academy hosts Clear Spring at 4:30 p.m., proceeds from the game will go to Brooke’s House of Hagerstown.

Brooke’s House is a safe haven and rehabilitation facility for young women who are addicted to drugs, allowing them to restore their lives and futures.  

The program is named for former Clear Spring athlete Brooke Simmers who died of an overdose at the age of 19. Brooke’s mother Dana Simmer will be on hand for a special pregame ceremony.

   • LEGION BASEBALL 

Funkstown registration

Final registration for the 2018 American Legion baseball season will be Saturday and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Legion Post in Funkstown. Any player who attends or graduated from a public or private school in Washington County is eligible to try out for the 19U (senior) and 17U (junior) teams.

Tryouts will be May at 5 p.m. and May 6 at 1 p.m. at Funkstown Park.  Players must attend both tryouts. Contact Patrick Moore (240-217-2294) or Mark Allen (301-302-3357).

Clear Spring grad Shirk makes provisional mark

The Shippensburg University women’s track & field team achieved three NCAA provisional marks in field events at the Bison Outdoor Classic hosted Saturday by Bucknell.

Redshirt senior Paige Shirk, a product of Clear Spring High and Hagerstown Community College, took fourth in the discus with an NCAA provisional throw of 146-11 inches which came on her second attempt of the day. Her sixth and final throw was also strong – 145-7.
