Floating fan convention cruise created for J.R.R. Tolkien fans

Fans of "The Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings" may want to take note of a new cruise package themed after Middle-earth that’s being billed as the world's largest floating fan convention for J.R.R. Tolkien fans.

Created by Trilo3y Voyages, the cruise will take to the high seas with cast members from the film, including Jed Brophy, who plays Nori the dwarf in "The Hobbit"; Sarah McLeod, who played Samwise Gamgee’s wife Rosie Cotton; and Bruce Hopkins, who played Gamling in the LOTR film trilogy.

While sailing to destinations like Belize, Bermuda, Bruges, Cozumel, Paris and Sydney, fans can dress up in their best elf, hobbit, and dwarf costumes while sitting in on Q and A sessions with the actors as well as pick the brains of J.R.R. Tolkien scholars.

The cruise is being launched in advance of the release of the final installment of “The Hobbit” in December.

Trilo3y Voyages will also supports charities such as MS Research and the Tolkien Center Building Fund in the UK throughout the cruise.

The J.R.R. Tolkien-themed cruise is the latest in a slew of sci-fi, fantasy and entertainment-inspired packages set to sail this year.

Cunard is launching a "Star Trek"-themed cruise in July headlined by George Takei; Crystal Cruises has created an add-on excursion inspired by "Game of Thrones" in Northern Ireland; while Carnival Cruise Line has created a package starring the cast of "Duck Dynasty," the wildly popular Robertson family that makes millions selling duck calls for hunters.
