KPDNKK to manage subsidised RON95 fleet card system

PETALING JAYA: The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry (KPDNKK) has been entrusted to manage the fleet card system which will allow B40 Malaysians who own cars and motorcycles with 1,500cc and 125cc engines respectively, to buy subsidised RON95 petrol. Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said KPDNKK’s minister; Datuk Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, will oversee its implementation, which is being regarded as a very important project. “Saifuddin will be in charge of its implementation, while the Finance Ministry (MoF) will channel the money. “All will be decided by him; and the open tender for the implementation of the (fleet card system) will be carried out by the MoF. “For more details, it is best to ask Saifuddin,” Lim said when met after appearing as a guest on 8TV Mandarin News at Sri Pentas in Bandar Utama here last night (Nov 8).

He said the government is also weighing the benefits (of the subsidy), so that it can be expanded to middle class Malaysians who own vehicles with 1,500cc engines. During the tabling of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government’s maiden budget on Nov 2, Lim announced that the government plans to provide a subsidy of 30 sen per litre of RON95 petrol for up to 100 litres a month for cars with an engine capacity of less than 1,500cc; and 40 litres per month for motorcycles with engines of up to 125cc. A total of RM2 billion has been allocated for the new initiative, which is expected to benefit around four million car owners and 2.6 million motorcycle owners. In its election manifesto, PH had pledged to give targeted petrol subsidies to private car owners with car engines of 1,300cc and below; and to motorcycle owners with machines with 125cc engines, at 100 litres a month. © New Straits Times Press (M) Bhd
