Save the Date: Outdoor events for all interests

Cheer on the professional, club and amateur teams competing in the Western Region Dragon Boat Racing Championships this weekend at Vancouver Lake Regional Park, 6801 N.W. Lower River Road, Vancouver. The Pacific Dragon Boat Association holds championships every two years, and selects winning regional teams to represent the United States in the world championship. Races run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday. Admission is free. www.paddlewest.net

Maybe this is the weekend to check out the Market at Vancouver Mall. The open-air market offers local produce, craft and food vendors from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, through Sept. 27, in the parking lot south of Macy’s at the Westfield Vancouver mall, 8700 N.E. The Saturday in the Park concert series continues in La Center with the Hess Stevens Band, performing at 6 p.m. today. The blues, soul and funk group led by Vicki Stevens and Sonny Hess will perform at Holley Park, 1000 E. Fourth St., instead of the usual Sternwheeler Amphitheater. There’s just two more chances to catch a Six to Sunset concert this summer. The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra will bring all 70 members to perform classical songs and cherished opera tunes during its concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday. The orchestra will be led by guest conductor Nir Kabaretti, with performers from Opera Quest Northwest at the pavilion at Esther Short Park, 605 W. Esther St., Vancouver.

The concert series wraps up Aug. 13 with Soul Vaccination. The 12-piece soul and funk band has been a fixture of the Northwest music scene for more than 19 years, performing soul standards from Stevie Wonder and Curtis Mayfield to Prince and Bruno Mars. It will also be the last Science in the Park and Noon Concert Series on Aug. 12. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. children can try hands-on science activities as they learn what chemists created, with a musical performance by Water Tower at noon in Esther Short Park.

The last Kids Dig of the summer happens at 2 p.m. Aug. 8. Children ages 8 to 12 can learn about archaeology firsthand, as they excavate a site with trowels, screen dirt for artifacts, and measure and map their finds to discover historical secrets. The Cosmo 7K and Champagne Bike Ride combines athletic achievement with a ladies’ night out. The all-women run and walk begins 6 p.m. Aug. 8 at the Artillery Barracks, 600 E. Hatheway Road, taking participants along the river and through downtown Vancouver. The event ends with cosmos, food and music. The Champagne Bike Ride is a noncompetitive event for women cyclists that features 20- or 35-mile routes starting at 10 a.m. Aug. 9 from O.O. Howard House, 750 Anderson St. Celebrate the end of the ride with champagne and mimosas. Both races benefit the Pink Lemonade Project, empowering those affected by breast cancer. The 7K registration is $60 to $70 and the bike race is $45 to $50, for those 21 and older. http://energyevents.com

Clark County’s Journey Theater Arts Group will give a summertime performance across the river with the ever-popular “Mary Poppins.” Based on the books by P.L. Travers and the classic Disney film, a mysterious nanny blows into the lives of the Banks family to look after young Jane and Michael. Using a bit of magic and common sense Mary Poppins helps the Banks family value each other again. The production runs Aug. 7-16 at the University of Portland’s Mago Hunt Theater, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd., Portland. The Hough Foundation invites wine and beer fans to explore Uptown Village and downtown Vancouver during the sixth annual Sip and Stroll. Attendees can visit the 29 participating locations, featuring two wine or beer types to sip at each spot along the self-guided tour, along with shopping specials, music and activities. The fundraising event also features a free shuttle driving along the route. Sip and stroll from 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 15, beginning at Burgerville Center for Responsible Community Leadership, 1602 Main St., Vancouver.
