BoDeans playing Naperville during Last Fling

Saturday night at the Last Fling festival in Naperville will be “Closer to Free” as the BoDeans are set to take the stage as the evening's headliner, organizers said Monday.

The roots rock band that got its start in Waukesha, Wisconsin, is scheduled to perform at 8:30 p.m. Sept. 3 at Rotary Hill along the Naperville Riverwalk after shows by Toad the Wet Sprocket at 6:30 p.m. and Rusted Root at 4:30 p.m.

The lineup offers a day of alternative rock by artists that rose to popularity in the 1980s and '90s and have continued performing since.

The BoDeans debuted with their 1986 album “Love & Hope & Sex & Dreams” before releasing 12 more albums — 10 of which hit the Billboard Top 200 chart. Known for hits including “Closer To Free,” “Good Things,” “You Don't Get Much,” “If It Makes You,” and “All The World,” the BoDeans allowed Naperville Jaycees to release word of the Naperville show after the band finished a gig Friday at Ravinia.

General admission tickets to the Sept. 3 concerts are $25; pit passes to be closer to the stage cost $35 until July 4 at lastfling.org. On July 5, each ticket price increases $10.

The 51st annual Last Fling is scheduled to open Friday, Sept. 2, with an evening of free concerts by cover bands Foreigners Journey and One of These Nights. The festival continues through Labor Day, with concerts, races, a parade, family activities, a carnival and a business expo.

Other performers include the Summerland Tour bands Sugar Ray, Everclear, Lit and Sponge on Sunday, Sept. 4, and country singer-songwriter Jamey Johnson playing after country cover band Hillbilly Rockstarz on Monday, Sept. 5.
