Manchester United defender Phil Jones is expected to start in his side’s clash with Huddersfield on Saturday.

The England defender sat out United’s 1-0 win against Benfica on Wednesday and Jose Mourinho confirmed beforehand that he had sustained an injury.

The 25-year-old’s been in great form in the centre of United’s defence this term, helping United to nine clean sheets in 12 matches.

Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo remain sidelined for United but Jones is expected to be fit according to Mourinho.

‘Phil Jones [decided] to be on the bench he was feeling that in case of real need he would help us,’ said Mourinho after the Benfica win.

‘So if he was in that stage today, on Saturday he will be in conditions to play.’

United trail leaders Manchester City by two points and will likely need a win against Huddersfield to keep pace with Pep Guardiola’s side.
