Warriors drop home opener to Cougars

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Senior Jordan Lazarich (Deer Park, N.Y./Deer Park) scored four goals for the sixth straight game, but Misericordia University jumped out to a 10-goal lead in the first half as the Lycoming College women's lacrosse team dropped its home opener to Misericordia, 17-7, on Tuesday afternoon, March 20, at the Shangraw Athletic Complex in a non-conference game.

Lazarich has notched 28 goals in six games for the Warriors (3-3) this season, giving her 167 career goals, just three short of Brenda MacPhail's 170 career goals for second in program history. Junior Kelly McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) scored two more goals and sophomore Alexis Tchou (Mount Airy, Md./Urbana) added her fifth goal of the season.
After the Warrior defense held strong in the first 11 minutes, the Cougars began to break through as they scored seven goals in an 11-minute span midway through the first half. Lycoming got on the board on Tchou's free-position goal before Misericordia added two more scores. Lazarich notched her first goal with 4:10 remaining on a free position shot, but the Cougars scored three late goals for a 12-2 halftime lead.

Lazarich scored her second goal, sprinting about 40 yards, before making a nice move to the inside and her third on a hard cut and an accurate pass from junior Thamina Peti (York, Pa./West York Area). The Warriors scored the game's final three goals when Lazarich scored and McGinniss scored twice in the final 4:05 to make up the final score.

Olivia Garcia led Misericordia with four goals while Kaila Quinlivan and Lexee Willey each notched hat tricks.

Sophomore Natalie Schroeder (Edgewater, Md./Annapolis) picked up four ground balls and Lazarich picked up three for the Warriors.

Sophomore Bailey Parchesky (Painted Post, N.Y./Corning-Painted Post) made seven saves in the first half and freshman Ayana Hagan (Brooklyn, N.Y./KIPP College Prep) made five in the second half.

Tori Hodges made six saves to earn the win for Misericordia.

The Warriors return to action on Thursday, March 22 when they head to King's (Pa.) College for a non-conference match at 7 p.m.
