Frankfort man charged with kidnapping and assault

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ)- A man has been arrested on assault and kidnapping charges following an incident Sunday evening.

According to The State Journal, 25 year-old Xavier Davon Smith was arrested after allegedly kidnapping the 8-year-old son of his 10-day-old baby’s mother.

The two argued and the situation escalated when Smith told the mother of his newborn that he was going to take the 8 year-old to Michigan.

The baby’s mother told Smith no, at which point he allegedly assaulted her resulting in injuries to her hands and legs.

The couple were at a residence on Wildwood Place with the children in the car.

According to police, Smith tried to drive away, but the mother got into the vehicle.

She was able to get her 8 year-old into the house then jumped back into the vehicle to grab the baby.

Reports say that Smith drove around until the mother was able to get the baby and get out of the vehicle.

She then ran into the Taco Bell located near Walmart on Frankfort’s west side where she called 911.

Smith allegedly went into the Taco Bell and began yelling at the woman and other patrons before leaving in the woman’s vehicle.

Police say Smith then went back to the residence on Wildwood Place, off Lawrenceburg Road, took the 8 year-old, and fled.

According to the paper, Smith allegedly sent the woman a text reading, “You wanna play with my son, I got urs.”

Police were able to find Smith’s location by pinging his phone; he was found on Ridgeview driver.

Smith was arrested and charged with kidnapping and fourth-degree assault.
