Portland Assault Suspect Arrested After Chase Into Washington

A man allegedly assaulted a kid and robbed a 7-Eleven in Portland on Tuesday before fleeing to Washington, where he was arrested.

PORTLAND, OR β€” Two people accused of multiple crimes in Portland were arrested in Clark County, Washington, Tuesday following a police chase over the border. The suspects in custody have not yet been identified by police.

Portland Police Bureau North Precinct officers were first dispatched to a reported assault and robbery just after 11:30 a.m. Oct. 16 at the 7-Eleven at 3311 N.E. 82nd Ave. in Portland. According to witnesses, a man entered the store, grabbed some merchandise, pulled out a gun, and assaulted a juvenile customer before taking off in a black Toyota Tacoma.

While officers were investigating the incident at 7-Eleven another 911 caller reported the driver of a Toyota Tacoma had thrown something at their car, officials said. Based on the caller's description of the vehicle and assailant, the officers at 7-Eleven reportedly believed it was the same person for whom they were already searching.

A short time later, East Precinct officers helping to search for the elusive Tacoma reportedly located it near Southeast 82nd Avenue and Southeast Claybourne Street, roughly five miles south of the 7-Eleven.

The officers tried to pull over the driver of the Tacoma, but he instead chose to flee, officials said. Officers reportedly pursued, with the assistance of the Bureau's Air Support Unit.
