QUANTICO, Virginia (KCBD) - On the final day of the South Plains Honor Flight, the veterans got to be a part of something truly unique to the trip as they attended the funeral of Master Sergeant Carl A. Buskell.

Buskell, who served in the Vietnam War, was laid to rest Monday morning as part of the Missing in America Project.

"In our time with Missing in America project, over 100 veterans have been returned here,” said Randy Reeves the Secretary of Veteran Affairs for Memorial Affairs.

The project provides military funerals for unclaimed remains of Veterans from all around the Country.

“We have one mission, and that is now to make sure that no veteran ever dies,” said Reeves.

It was an emotional moment for many of the Veterans, as this South Plains Honor Flight became the first Honor Flight to be a part of a Veterans Service.

“This is emotional because of the fact, that they brought up the fact that they found all the remains,” Vietnam veteran Roger Rockafellow said, tearing up. ”And, it is very rewarding that the United States recognizes that. With that, it is with a humble heart that we are fellow veterans that we could end up and serve his legacy of what he has done.”

The South Plains Honor Flight is set to return to Lubbock Monday night.
