Tens of thousands lined the streets in an Oak Lawn neighborhood Sunday, capping the biggest weekend of the year for the North Texas LGBTQ community. Dallas Pride Parade marked itโs 35th year โ a gathering of celebration and support.
โWe feel more welcome and at home,โ said Allison Oliver of Grand Prairie. โItโs like this is our home.โ
Oliver and her partner, Shan Bowens Oliver, lined up outside the place where they first met โ eight years ago. Love at first sight, they say.
โIt really was,โ said Allison.
The parade is a celebration, and also a safe place where people can be themselves, according to organizers.
โThis day is big for all of us,โ said Shan Bowens Oliver. โGay pride. Everyone out in their colors, everybody supporting each other. Ainโt nothing but love out here.โ
โThe community we have, there are a lot of people who arenโt for us,โ said Allison Oliver. โSo we are all we have.โ
