Tens of thousands lined the streets in an Oak Lawn neighborhood Sunday, capping the biggest weekend of the year for the North Texas LGBTQ community. Dallas Pride Parade marked it’s 35th year – a gathering of celebration and support.
“We feel more welcome and at home,” said Allison Oliver of Grand Prairie. “It’s like this is our home.”
Oliver and her partner, Shan Bowens Oliver, lined up outside the place where they first met – eight years ago. Love at first sight, they say.
“It really was,” said Allison.
The parade is a celebration, and also a safe place where people can be themselves, according to organizers.
“This day is big for all of us,” said Shan Bowens Oliver. “Gay pride. Everyone out in their colors, everybody supporting each other. Ain’t nothing but love out here.”
“The community we have, there are a lot of people who aren’t for us,” said Allison Oliver. “So we are all we have.”

NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 also took part in the Dallas Pride Parade. Organizers expected crowds to exceed 50,000 for the weekend.
