US rapper Dimitri Leslie Roger, better known as 'Rich the Kid', poses on the red carpet on arrival for the BRIT Awards 2018 in London.

The Elton John farewell tour swings through Arizona in a month that ends with Old Dominion and Jake Owen kicking off the Coors Light Birds Nest concert series at the Phoenix Open.

Here's a look at those and other highlights of the month in Valley concerts, from Blackberry Smoke to Rich the Kid and Dawes.

1/26: Elton John

Elton John performs live on the Sunset Strip, on Feb. 27, 2016, as a thank you to the City of West Hollywood for their support of the Elton John AIDS Foundation. The concert was streamed live on AOL.com and co-presented by AOL and BBVA.

Farewell Yellow Brick Road is a fairly ridiculous name for Elton John's farewell tour – as though using the actual album title he's referencing wouldn't have conveyed the same sense of finality. The man's 71. And it's a three-year tour. Having said that, this should be a great show by a legendary artist. John says, “It’s time to come off the road so I can fully embrace the next important chapter of my life.”

“This live album is a tip of the hat to the live albums that blew my mind when I was a kid,” the guitarist explained in a press release. "The musical content itself is modern and atomic-powered, but the presentation is decidedly old school. The pacing of the show, the audience participation, the special live arrangements of the songs."

Details: 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26. Rebel Lounge, 2303 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix. $23-$73. 602-296-7013, therebellounge.com.

The acclaimed jazz guitarist, whose fluid lines are inspired as much by pianists and horn players as other guitarists, is playing the Nash at the helm of a quartet with Brice Winston on sax, Chris Finet on bass and Dom Moio on drums.

These Minnesota indie-pop sensations are touring the States on "Bambi." It's their second album, following "Landmark," which earned them a spot on NPR Music's list of their favorite new artists of 2017.

They've somehow grown a lot between those two releases. The Line of Best Fit wrote, "They’ve struck a fine balance, between wistful, effervescent music that brims with youthful exuberance, and a grounded, more mature, somewhat troubled outlook on life."

1/30: Blackberry Smoke

These Southern-rock standard bearers are touring the States in support of "Find a Light." It's an album so steeped in tradition, the critic at Paste wrote, "Rest assured that it doesn't sound like 'In Rainbows' or 'Pet Sounds' or 'Damn,' it sounds exactly like Blackberry Smoke. And that is great news because Blackberry Smoke sounds great."

Blackberry Smoke perform in Concert during Arizona Bike Week Wednesday, April 6, 2016, at WestWorld of Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Ariz.

1/31: Lizz Wright

A soulful vocalist whose sound is steeped as much in gospel, classic soul and R&B as modern jazz, she arrives in support of the masterful "Grace," an album steeped in the sound of that old-time religion with timeless production by the great Joe Henry.

Three songs find Henry fleshing out her powerful lead vocals with an eight-piece gospel choir, and her take on Allen Toussaint's stately "Southern Nights" won't be mistaken for Glen Campbell's breezy treatment of the song.

Details: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31. Musical Instrument Museum, 4725 E. Mayo Blvd., Phoenix. $43.50-$53.50. 480-478-6000, mim.org.

1/31: Aaron Carter

This former preteen idol is clearly hoping for a Justin Bieber-worthy reinvention with his latest album, "Love." It's Carter's first release in more than 15 years, and its blend of EDM and blue-eyed soul is as contagious as it was on Bieber's latest album.

If that reads like snark, it isn't meant to. It's beyond impressive, in fact, that Carter has managed to sound as of the moment as he does on "Love." And Bieber owes him anyway.

Details: 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31. Pub Rock, 8005 E. Roosevelt St., Phoenix. $15-$60. 480-945-4985, pubrocklive.com.

How low can they go? The latest Melvins lineup features two new bassists for the low, low price of one. Singer-guitarist Buzz Osborne and drummer Dale Crover are joined on bass by Steve McDonald of Redd Kross and Jeff Pinkus of Butthole Surfers.

Why? Because they can. And because it sounds good. At least, that proved to be the case on "Pinkus Abortion Technician," their latest release, which features a sludge-metal rethink of the Beatles hit "I Want to Hold Your Hand."

1/17: Mustard Plug

These ska-punk veterans haven't put a record out since "Can't Contain It" hit the streets in 2014, which is weird because it sounded like a rebirth at the time.

Alternative Press quoted singer Dave Kirchgessner saying, “Instead of just trying to document a bunch of songs that we play live, we took our time and got more creative in the studio.... This album is strong evolution in our sound and our art while still staying true to the goal of playing party music for punk rockers.”

1/19-20: Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons

Frankie Valli has added two more Phoenix concert dates at the Celebrity Theatre

Valli, who rose to fame in the early '60s as the lead singer of the Four Seasons, is hotter than he's been in decades thanks to the success of "Jersey Boys," the Tony-winning musical that chronicles the life and times of Valli and his group. The Four Seasons had 40 singles go Top 40 in their prime, including "Big Girls Don't Cry," "Walk Like a Man," "Rag Doll" and "Can't Take My Eyes Off You."

Details: 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19; 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20. Celebrity Theatre, 440 N. 32nd St., Phoenix. $66-$126. 602-267-1600, celebritytheatre.com.

1/19-20: Booker T. Jones

The Memphis soul legend was still in his teens when the M.G.'s topped the R&B charts with the great "Green Onions," Jones' Hammond M3 organ commanding the spotlight. They also appeared on no fewer than 600 Stax/Volt recordings, including classics by the likes of Otis Redding, Eddie Floyd, Rufus Thomas, Carla Thomas, Johnnie Taylor and William Bell.

They worked with non-Stax artists too, including Wilson Pickett, Sam and Dave and Albert King. But enough about the '60s. "Sound the Alarm," a star-studded album released in 2013, is a welcome addition to a deeply soulful legacy.

PASADENA, CA - JUNE 24: Musicians Taylor Goldsmith (L) and Griffin Goldsmith of musical group Dawes perform on The Oaks stage during Arroyo Seco Weekend at the Brookside Golf Course at on June 24, 2017 in Pasadena, California.

It's not for nothing that these guys recorded their debut in Laurel Canyon, the epicenter of the California soft-rock sound that flourished in the early '70s. It's in their blood. And that blood is all over the tracks on every Dawes release. They arrive in support of "Passwords," of which Taylor Goldsmith says, "We’re living in such a unique moment in history. Many of these songs are an attempt to come to terms with the modern world, while always trying to consider both sides of the story.”

1/22: Gabriel Kahane

The Brooklyn composer is touring the States in support of "Book of Travelers," a haunting collection of ballads inspired by the character he met while riding a train nearly 9,000 miles across the nation in the days that followed President Donald Trump's election.

Uncut called it "musically fascinating and hauntingly empathetic" while PopMatters said "An engaging, sometimes stunning collection of songs, in the end, it serves as a worrisome prologue to what is still unfolding."

Details: 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22. Musical Instrument Museum, 4725 E. Mayo Blvd., Phoenix. $28.50-$33.50. 480-478-6000, mim.org.

1/22: JJ Grey & Mofro

JJ Grey & Mofro.

"Ol' Glory" is the sound of the Southern soul revival getting all the details right, Grey effortlessly channeling the raspy essence of those classic Otis Redding records he appears to have been studying his whole life just to get to this moment.

Even when they turn it down on the country blues of "The Island," it feels like a spiritual cousin of "(Sittin' on) The Dock of the Bay." As PopMatters says, they "provide a connection to the past and a time when talent and tenacity moved the music forward."

Details: 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22. Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts, 7380 E. Second St. $35-$40. 480-499-8587, scottsdaleperformingarts.org.

1/24: Corrosion of Conformity

These stoner-punk veterans are touring the States in support of the masterful "No Cross No Crown," their first album with singer-guitarist Pepper Keenan in more than a decade and their highest-chart effort yet.

Mojo called it "a noteworthy comeback" while the Wire raved, "They feel energised with Keenan back in the fold, and while the pronounced riffs on the introduction of 'Little Man' might hark back to their hardcore days, the emphasis here is on groove."

Details: 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24. Crescent Ballroom, 308 N. Second Ave., Phoenix. $30; $29 in advance. 602-716-2222, crescentphx.com.
