Leaders of a Kansas City suburb want to dispose of the car that was sawed in half nearly 30 years ago as part of a joke, and left on the edge of town with a sign reading, "Divorced. She got ½."

The Kansas City Star reports that the Edgerton, Kansas, codes department has sent 61-year-old Danny O'Neal a letter telling him it's time to junk the junker that sits at a defunct gas station. He plans to argue that it should stay, saying it's a "landmark" and memorial to the late former Edgerton Mayor Ray Braun. The never-divorced Braun shortened the car, fitted the rear with caster wheels and used to drive it in regional parades.

But City Council President Clay Longanecker says the car has "turned into an eyesore."
