Dave Davies Says There’s Still Hope for a Kinks Reunion

Will the Kinks ever get back together? Co-founder Dave Davies isn't sure, but he says as long as he and his surviving former bandmates are still alive, there's always a chance.

"I'd say there's an outside shot," Davies told Rolling Stone, adding that his brother Ray Davies' schedule also impacts the prospects of a reunion. "Where there's life, there's hope. I know Ray has a lot coming up, and I do as well, so we'll see how things span out in the next few months. A lot of it depends on how Ray and I feel by the end of the year, physically, emotionally and psychologically. I wish I could give you a more definitive answer, but I don't want to jump the gun."

Davies also touched on the persistent rumor that his long-running feud with drummer Mick Avory has been a sticking point in getting the band back together, saying it's "possible" that Avory would be invited to take part if he's "physically or psychologically" up to the task and admitting that their relationship, like any long association, has had its rough patches.

"Obviously when you spend that much time working with people you have ups and downs," he pointed out. "It's like a marriage. People have arguments and slam doors and go away for the weekend on their own. That's just life. We've been through a lot of good times and a lot of bad times."

In the meantime, Davies has a new live album out, Rippin' Up New York City, and is working on another studio LP with his son Russell while prepping for another round of shows. "I feel really good," he said. "I'd rather be 48 than 68, but you can't fight age."
