Neighbor, firefighter injured in Denville house fire

DENVILLE -- Two people were injured Monday morning in a house fire on Chestnut Hill Drive, police said.

At about 8:20 a.m., police and firefighters responded to a call reporting a smoke condition at a home on Chestnut Hill Drive, Denville police Capt. Paul Nigro said.

A neighbor was taken to Morristown Medical Center for smoke inhalation after he entered the home in order to pull out the family dog, Nigro said. The dog was not injured in the blaze.

A firefighter was also injured by falling debris during firefighting efforts, he said. He was treated at Saint Clare's Hospital, Nigro said.

The home was rendered uninhabitable as it sustained significant fire, smoke and water damage, he said.

Firefighters with Denville, Rockaway Township, Rockaway Borough, Boonton Township and Parsippany all responded to the scene. They were assisted by Saint Clare's EMS, Denville First Aid and NJ Transit Police -- as the property is adjacent to train tracks, Nigro said.

More information on the cause and origin of the blaze wasn't immediately available, he said.
