Exclusive: Paul Hogan drops into Sydney for a new role

By Amy Cooper

Paul Hogan slipped quietly into Sydney during the week for a quickie break to catch up with family and friends, but the veteran Crocodile Dundee star took time to throw another shrimp on the barbie for his latest role, and shared this exclusive snap with Fairfax.

Hoges, who split with second wife Linda Kozlowski in 2013, lives alone in Los Angeles, but his five children and 10 grandchildren from his marriage to first wife Noelene are all based in Australia, with Noelene and some of their kids still in Sydney's north.

He is rarely photographed these days, and this barbecue on a friend's balcony in Milson's Point is the first time he's taken up the tongs here officially since his famous Tourism Australia campaign 32 years ago.

It's for an even better local cause: the 76-year-old has become an ambassador for Cure Cancer Australia, and one of his key roles will be promoting the organisation's annual barbeCURE, an initiative which raises money through nationwide charity barbecues for early-career cancer researchers.

"It's tough to know that every four minutes an Australian is diagnosed with some form of cancer and that every 12 minutes an Aussie will die from cancer," Hogan told Fairfax.

"They're shocking statistics and only research will give us the breakthroughs we need to find a cure. I'm not a scientist but I can help raise awareness about the ground-breaking work they do."
