Red Hot Chili Peppers are about to head back into the studio

They last released an album with 2016's 'The Getaway'

Red Hot Chili Peppers are about to head back into the studio, according to frontman Anthony Kiedis.

The band last released an album with 2016’s ‘The Getaway‘. In a three-star review, NME said the album featured “a reluctance to take too many risks” but was “progress” from its predecessor, ‘I’m With You‘.

Speaking to the New York Post during a New York Fashion Week event, Kiedis confirmed the band are set to re-enter the recording studio in two weeks time, where they will begin work on an album.

The record will be the band’s 12th and the third created by the current line-up, in which Kiedis is joined by drummer Chad Smith, bassist Flea, and guitarist Josh Klinghoffer.

Meanwhile, Flea is set to publish his memoir later this month (September 25). Acid For The Children will tell the musician’s “fascinating life story, complete with all the dizzying highs and the gutter lows you’d expect from an LA street rat turned world-famous rock star”, according to an official synopsis.

In February, Flea spoke of his past battles with drug addiction and said he had “been around substance abuse since the day [he] was born.”

Earlier this year, the bassist reunited in public with former Chili Peppers guitarist John Frusciante for the first time in 11 years. They were spotted attending a boxing match in Los Angeles together in July.
