LUDHIANA: Hosts Ludhiana today outperformed Amritsar in the women’s section to win the title in the 27th Senior Punjab Softball Championship being held here at Guru Nanak Stadium.

Hosts Ludhiana today outperformed Amritsar in the women’s section to win the title in the 27th Senior Punjab Softball Championship being held here at Guru Nanak Stadium.

In the final, Ludhiana women faced a little challenge from their opponents Amritsar, whom they overwhelmed 7-1 to lift the winners’ trophy.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Amritsar beat Moga 3-0 while Ludhiana demolished Gurdaspur 10-0 to settle for the summit clash.

In the match to decide the third position, Gurdaspur warded off stiff resistance from Moga before wrapping up the issue 2-0 and finished as second runners-up.

In the league matches, Gurdaspur thrashed Pathankot 10-0; Moga prevailed over Jalandhar 1-0; Amritsar defeated Fazilka 4-0; Gurdaspur got the better of Sangrur 4-1 and Ludhiana routed Ferozepur 10-0.

Pran Nath Passi, honorary general secretary, Punjab Softball Association (PSA), gave away prizes to the winners.

Office-bearers of the PSA and Ludhiana District Softball Association, besides coaches, were present at the prize distribution function.
