A Vero Beach man was arrested Saturday after he sideswiped a bicyclist and drove away, according to a Stuart police arrest affidavit.

Zacharey S. Cox, 25,  of the 1400 block of 82nd Avenue, was charged with leaving the scene of a crash with injuries, and DUI with personal injury, according to the affidavit. He was released from the Martin County Jail Sunday after he posted $5,750 in bond, records said.

A Stuart police officer was on routine patrol at about 7:25 p.m. when he saw a silver Chevrolet pickup pull up close to a woman on a bicycle at Northwest Federal Highway and Northwest Wright Boulevard, the affidavit said.

When the traffic signal at the intersection turned green, the truck accelerated rapidly, spinning its tires and knocking the woman off her bike before traveling onto the sidewalk, the affidavit said.

The truck sped west as motorists stopped to help the woman, whom paramedics treated for a cut to the elbow, it said.

The officer pulled over the truck and found Cox behind the wheel and an open beer. Cox failed several field sobriety tests, the affidavit said.  Breath tests returned readings of .09 and .08, it said. Florida law says a person is intoxicated with a test reading of .08.
